Tampa, FL; November 2020
It’s often said you get what you pay for. If you ever find yourself with a case of buyer’s remorse over a cheap security system, you just might need a second opinion. Such was the case for Rollin’ Oats Market & Cafe in November of 2020. The Tampa Bay provider of organic foods, nutritional supplements, and healthy lifestyle supplies contacted Surveillance Technology, Inc, (STI) to have their existing system quoted for an upgrade.
Rollin’ Oats had experienced a variety of concerns with their previous provider and surveillance equipment. The equipment had failed prematurely, support was lacking, and logging in was cumbersome. STI evaluated their needs and was able to replace and upgrade their system to better suit those needs.
Ten cameras were upgraded to a turret style with 4K resolution and 2.8mm fixed lenses ideal for broad views of the produce, supplement, wine and grocery areas. A motorized turret style 4K camera was added over each cash register. The placement of these cameras is crucial. Providing tight views from directly over the top of the register reduces the risk that the camera can be beat, which occurs when someone can block the view of a camera with their body. The strategic overhead placement is far superior to placing a camera behind the register or in a corner. When appropriately zoomed in, these can capture a view 5 feet in diameter with enough clarity to see the denomination numbers of the bills.
On the exterior of the property, STI installed six additional 4K cameras featuring 3.6mm fixed lenses and 24/7 color, which capture color footage even in night vision mode. After assessing the available space, it was determined the angles allowed for the use of turret style cameras in the delivery area, front wall, and the front and rear parking areas. An additional motorized bullet style 4K camera was trained on the trash area outside to curb illegal dumping.
An 8 channel and a 16 channel H.265 4K DVR now record footage and send it in real time to three 43” 4K monitors – two in the office and one at customer service. This is an example of how STI can leverage existing functional equipment as part of an enhanced system. Rollin’ Oats already had one monitor at customer service, but this upgrade allows each DVR to have its own monitor.
Surveillance Technology and Rollin’ Oats Market & Café are both locally owned and proud to meet the unique needs of clients across Tampa Bay.
