Madison Heights is an affordable apartment community for downtown Tampa seniors. A bright and colorful mural graces the side of the stately building in the North Franklin Street Historic district. Surveillance Technology, Inc (STI) first implemented a surveillance package at this property in 2013, which featured two 16 channel DVRs supporting 30 cameras with SDI technology. The system’s digital CCTV technology was state of the art at the time of installation and performed well over a short distance; but over the years, signals began degrading materially after 200’ of cable. This technology was eventually surpassed by systems offering better performance over long distances, and SDI products never evolved beyond 2 megapixels of resolution. More than a decade after their original installation, STI revisited the property in 2024 to upgrade the system to modern security cameras for this Tampa apartment complex.
It’s important to note that 4K and SDI equipment are not compatible. With their new 4K DVRs offering H.265 compression, Madison Heights can take a strategic, budget-conscious approach to camera replacement at their own pace. In this phase, they prioritized the 10 most critical areas, using turret style 4K cameras with 2.7mm – 13mm motorized, autofocus lenses for tight shots. Over the coming months, they will continue replacing cameras in additional living areas, along with common areas, such as the pool, fitness center, courtyard, and putting green.
