Sembler Real Estate Company is known for the development, leasing, and management of retail properties across the southeast. Their own headquarters building on Central Ave in St. Pete, FL is a two-story building also occupied by other professional service providers, including a CPA, bank, and law firm. To protect their tenants, as well as their own operations and employees, Sembler recently hired Surveillance Technology, Inc. (STI) to design and install a custom security package.
In the common areas inside the building, two cameras have been installed to provide tight views of anyone entering or exiting the property. These cameras are equipped with facial recognition capability. The system does not automatically store faces; but property managers can create a flat file of known faces that will trigger an alert. Alternatively, an image of an individual can be uploaded manually to the system. If that person is later recognized by the cameras, designated parties can be notified.
Facial recognition and other security camera features rely on quality images. With so many sunny days in Florida, a wide front window or open exterior door can wreak havoc on cameras, as they try to balance a dark interior suddenly contrasted by bright sunlight. Much like your eyes have to adjust when stepping from a bright space into a dark room, cameras have to adjust how much light is allowed into the lens. Surveillance Tech addresses this problem with a wide dynamic range (WDR) electronic chip. This feature enhances or decreases the light digitally, to improve visibility of what can be seen through the window without losing sight of what’s in the room. There is a minimal loss of quality in achieving balance, but the result improves what you can clearly see in footage, both indoors and out.
Eight more cameras were installed outside the building, strategically placed at the perimeter of the property for optimal coverage. These 24/7 Ultra ColorMax cameras have a full complement of AI features to provide further intelligence about activities onsite. These cameras emit light that allows for high quality color images both day and night. They can also be configured to identify human or vehicle movements in defined zones at predetermined hours. Such an instance will cause the cameras to deploy flashing lights, and allow for audible messaging to intruders.
When are security cameras needed at a business? That need typically arises after an incident, when you want footage of what has already happened. Equipping your property today will serve you well when you need the video later. STI’s clients appreciate the ease of access and longevity of availability of video evidence. Sembler’s new collection of IP cameras send their data back to a 16-channel NVR, which provides ample local storage to hold footage in its original 4K quality for a sufficient time to satisfy future needs.
