This is the second phase of work Surveillance Technology, Inc. (STI) has undertaken at Bella Capri in Indian Rocks. Their surveillance system was so well received, they returned for an access control solution. The property previously had Door King phone entry systems at the entry gate and all four elevator lobbies. The lobbies are found at the four corners of an H-shaped structure. With the prior system, visitors would have to use the phone call box to enter the property, then again at the specific elevator lobby they were visiting. Guests could only use the call box at one end of the lobby, as the other held a keypad only for residents.
While these prior restrictions may have been effective, they weren’t user friendly or welcoming. Locking down a space with cumbersome access control can reduce community engagement and risks a “fortress mentality”. Residential property owners should also consider how to make returning home or visiting friends a pleasant experience. Surveillance Tech replaced this cumbersome system with a LiftMaster Cap XL V-2 at the vehicle entrance and all 4 lobbies. These LiftMaster keypads feature Bluetooth technology, allowing residents to gain access with an app on their personal device. They can also issue temporary codes to their guests, which can be used via Bluetooth at both ends of the lobby, or by entering a PIN code on the keypad. When these guest passes are issued, the guest will receive a text that includes a link to a web page. Users do not have to download an app. The landing page will give them a PIN code or present a button on the website they can press to open the door. Residents can use a resident version of the app from their vehicle at the property entrance to access the gate, or they can use the existing RF remotes they already had.
If guests use the video call box, footage of the interaction between the guest and resident is captured. These records are maintained on a unified cloud-based database and accessible by property owners in their app or cloud based portal. Coupling the new access control package with the previously installed strategic surveillance system has resulted in comprehensive coverage offering residents security and convenience.
