If you’ve encountered bright pink dumpsters across central and south Florida, there’s a good chance they are owned by Wasteline Solutions, a women-owned provider of commercial and residential dumpster rentals. With five locations in Pinellas County alone, they are neighbors of Surveillance Technology, Inc. (STI), who recently installed business security cameras Clearwater at their location.
The property is anchored by a large lot with drive-on/drive-off scales for trucks. The area requiring surveillance is large enough to accommodate movement of a fleet of tractor trailers and dumpsters as big as 40 yards. In addition to driving surfaces and scales, there are 2 offices on site – a primary administrative office and the weigh station office, constructed of repurposed shipping containers.
A 16 channel H.265 4K NVR in the main office records footage from a number of IP cameras. One provides a broad view of the lot and another trains a varifocal lens at the main gate. Two cameras provide tight views of both entrances. A ColorMax Ultra camera captures 4K color footage 24/7, even in night vision mode. In addition to monitoring, this solution actively contributes to the safety of their property, people, and assets with deterrence features. AI programming detects specified movement at desired times and employs flashing lights and sirens when defined triggers are detected.
Two cameras with 2.8 – 12 mm lenses oversee the outside of the fenceline. Along with other fenceline coverage noted below, the entire perimeter is monitored for pedestrian or vehicle penetration, as well as any unauthorized dumping. Cameras with 5 – 50mm lenses shoot tight views on the front fence line. Clients may be tempted to search the internet for guidance on where to place security cameras outside business locations. In reality, equipment selection & placement are critical and require technical expertise. In this case, tight views were achieved with a lens, even though the fenceline is 200’ long. Alternatively, broad shots were more appropriate for common areas inside the office, storage warehouse, and exterior covered storage.
At the north gate, STI created an enclosure for two more 24/7 color bullet style cameras. One is shooting toward the gate and another toward the scale. Footage from these cameras is sent to the NVR in the main office via a wireless bridge, ensuring a high quality connection without physically running cable.
In the scale office, there is now an 8 channel H.265 4K NVR. Two ColorMax Ultra bullet cameras have been installed on a pole on the west fenceline on the exterior. A third camera is trained on the scale, capturing images of trucks as they exit, while a fourth provides broad shots of that portion of the lot. A 5-50mm lens was chosen to shoot the back storage area. This avoids the need to trench cable underground, which is particularly helpful in this case, as the ground has been hardened for truck traffic. This is an example of a property customized for the client’s unique operations, and STI needs to accommodate those conditions in their design and choice of equipment. Instead of battling hardened terrain, they used the right lenses and a wireless bridge.
The Wasteline Solutions property is blanketed with surveillance coverage. They have eyes on all interior areas, the exterior perimeter, storage areas, and end-to-end path of travel for trucks.
