MiTek is out to transform the building industry with better building solutions. They combine engineered products with software, services, and automation to collaborate with clients on 6 continents, in 95 countries. Growing steadily since 1955, they now offer over 4,000 products. Some of these are manufactured at their stamping plant in Tampa, FL. Here you can find a massive property housing large rolls of steel, which can be transformed into a variety of products, such as structural and offsite component connectors, anchoring solutions, fasteners, and more.
A property of this size required a surveillance package of equal magnitude, and MiTek turned to local experts, Surveillance Technology, Inc. (STI) to design and install such a system with multiple NVR network video recorders. STI installed a 32 channel NVR with a 32 port POE switch, coupled with a complementary 16 channel NVR with 16 port POE.
This property has a number of high risk machines in use, including work presses, forklifts, and cranes. STI’s surveillance package helps reassure management that this equipment is being used appropriately, to mitigate liability to the business and keep the operators safe. Thirteen AI 4K bullet style 4K cameras with 2.8mm – 12mm varifocal lenses with motorized zoom provide tight shots of high risk production areas, along with the front exterior, front gate, and storage areas.
Seventeen bullet style AI IP 4K cameras with 8-megapixel resolution and 3.6mm lenses offer additional broad views of interior work areas and exterior common areas in the rear of the property. These AI cameras can be programmed to recognize specific vehicular or pedestrian activity during certain times and scenarios, which generate automatic notifications to property managers and business owners in real time.
Six 5-megapixel IP turret style cameras with 2.8mm fixed lenses were used for gaining broad views of small areas, including the office, break room, and tool room. Two similar cameras were used for broad views of the inside work area, but with 8-megapixel resolution, given the larger 40’ x 20’ space. Two 180° IP cameras provide broad views of the main aisles at the front and rear of the property, which serve as a connector between cameras that were already covering down the length of each aisle.
MiTek did not interrupt production for this installation. Surveillance Technology worked around the client’s daily operations to complete this project, which required two 45’ boom lifts to reach the 40’ ceiling. The warehouse was extremely hot, particularly in typical Florida weather conditions and at the highest levels of the space, not normally occupied by workers. STI had to keep their own employees hydrated and safe in taxing conditions while installing this comprehensive surveillance package, complete with 12,300’ of cable.
The Surveillance Technology team has tackled jobs of all sizes, and this was among the largest. With a global presence and 22 locations, MiTek can surely appreciate the ability to offer scalable service. MiTek commits to waste less time and materials, lower project costs, and accelerate building cycles for their clients. This pairs nicely with STI’s commitment to excellence as a full service provider of video surveillance and access control systems for all types of institutions and properties.
